North Valley Food Bank distributed approximately 500 Thanksgiving meals to local families, setting a record, according to a recent KPAX article. The organization broke another record in Trego, where they supplied meals to approximately 240 families.
The community also gave back to the food bank through the Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot. The event featured 850 participants taking part in the 5-kilometer run, with a portion of the proceeds, as well as food donations, going to the food bank.
“We got to earn the calories. And it's kind of our last chance to run outside with a bunch of people,” Turkey Trot participant Ryan Seguine said in a KPAX story about the event.
Although there weren't many food donations in 2022, the run still featured a large number of volunteers.
“It also really raises awareness about how much need for food assistance there is in our community," Sophie Albert, executive director of North Valley Food Bank, told KPAX. "We are at a 40-year high of a need for food assistance in our community."
Although the Thanksgiving holiday is over, the food bank still seeks support to continue aiding families in need.
