State Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) announced the launch of her third annual "Valentines for Veterans" event in a Facebook post published Jan. 18. The program will run through Feb. 10.
"I am hosting our third annual Valentines for Veterans program to bring joy to local veterans in our 79th District," Haas wrote. "I invite you to make a handmade Valentine's greeting card and drop it off at my district office over the next few weeks. Our Veterans are a big part of our community and these valentines are a small thank you for our appreciation for all that they have done and continue to do for us. Let’s help spread a little joy to those most important to us!"
According to the Daily Journal, Haas has invited residents to participate in making Valentine's greetings with well-wishes for military veterans, with donations currently being accepted at her office at 370 East Court St., Kankakee. Donations are slated to be delivered to veterans living at the Manteno Veterans Home.
Haas was recently a key figure in fighting for legislation allowing for the Nicor company to provide natural gas to her district following over three years of fighting for the move from propane or electric heat, according to NBC Chicago. She was joined in her efforts by Democratic state Sen. Patrick Joyce (D-Kankakee).
